The usual early start at 5.50, 6.42 from B Sth, & 7.57 from St Pancras (222022) to Sheffield arr 9.58, misty on the way up. Crossed platform for 10.06 to Elsecar (55813). Walked down to Heritage Centre, passed 5 pubs still in business (Fitzwilliam Arms, Milton Arms and Market Hotel + 2 others). Had a quick look round and had coffee, sausage & bacon wrap and flapjack in pleasant little café. In to visitor cantre and bought book, Black Diamonds, about the dysfunctional weathly Fitzwilliam family owners of the massive nearby mansion, Wentworth Woodhouse. Got the 66 bus to Barnsley, and on the way a text from Mike Brennan to say he, Adam & Dixie were in Chennells bar. As I got off the bus, a lady had heard me ask the driver how to get to the pub, and offered to show me as she was going that way. Had a chat on the way. The gang tucked away in a corner and I had a couple of pints (2 pints and an orange juice£5.09) and braised beef, chips and peas £4.75. Good value! Sitting in the North stand facing the sun, it was nicely warm, but 4 mins in we go one down to a Marley Watkins quick break down the right and firing across goal. We manage an equaliser by Lucas Piazon on 37 mins. They get another, similar to the first, scored by Sam Winnall on 41, but a minute later a cracking thru'' ball by Stefan Johansen, is met by Sone Aluko who equalises for us. 2-2 at half time. No soon as the second half has started, when Scott Malone crosses from the L and it evades the keeper and drops into the net. Q great celebration. And we''re not finished, Chris Martin heads his first goal for us since joining in the summer. So still unbeaten away, home form needs to improve. We hasten to the station, all travelling together on way back, get 19.14, and 19.49 at Sheffield, arr 20.00. I''m home at 21.15.
