Down to Oxford for the weekend with the missus to visit the daughter. Both wanted to go to that there London to do some shopping. So not interested.
Checked the football fixtures - last day of the Championship, bound to be something. And there it was Palace v Peterborough. Palace not guaranteed a play-off place and Peterborough staring at a possible relegation.
Peterborough took the lead, but conceded a late first half penalty. Took the lead again and looked safe. Cometh the hour (and 7 minutes), cometh the Sunderland legend. Super Kevin Phillips brought on a sub and within 15 minutes he'd levelled it. Palace went on to score a last minute winner, into the play-offs and promotion. Peterborough were relegated.
Made my way back into the city - Oxford Street. Women still shopping. Found a bar, just off Oxford Street where I could have a couple of pints, read the programme and check the Premier League scores as they came in. Took me about half of my first pint to notice that a) there weren't many women in the bar - not in itself unusual and b) a few of the men were holding hands. Oh! Googled 'The City of Quebec'........ One of London's oldest gay bars. Ho hum, they had the sport on and the beer wasn't bad. Sunderland got beat.
