Saturday 29th December took us to a not so far but awkward trip to Fleetwood Towns Highbury Ground,on the Fylde coast for their League 2 clash with York City. Our mate Joffy came with us for the 1st time since our first trip to Wigan in September. We travelled via our usual route and from Preston we boarded the train to Blackpool Pleasure Beach so we could catch a bus for the 40 minute ride to Fleetwoods ground. The bus dropped us off right outside the ground and we just had enough time to buy our tickets £17 for the adult and £6 each for the 2 boys and also visit the Highbury chip shop for a portion of chips each.We entered the ground but the difference this time was we were in the standing area and among the visiting York fans. The York fans were quite friendly and gave their team virtual non-stop encouragement and vocal support.
The game itself was not the most entertaining we have seen but there was loads of commitment from both sides. There were very few chances or incidents to talk about or warm us up on what was a really cold day.The 2,465 attendance witnessed a 0-0 draw, the first blank scoresheet we had seen in all our visits.I can''t say we were not disappointed to hear the final whistle so we could start our journey home which included getting off the bus on Blackpools Promenade to visit McDonalds for our tea.Thankfully there were no problems with our connections home and we arrived home at about 9.20pm,grateful for the warmth. It was a different experience today but enjoyable despite the match being slightly disappointing
