Comments :
Best game of the season by far and a wonder goal for the second (10 minutes after I said they ought to take him off 'cos he's knackered and doing nothing !!) Aldershot are a football playing team unlike Boreham Wood who are mouthy bully-boys (exactly like they were when I saw them at Barrow earlier in the season). Again they could have had 2 or more sent off but somehow managed to escape with only 'yellows'. They were, however, played off the park and soundly and resoundingly beaten. Train down a little fraught as I got on the wrong underground and then my scheduled Aldershot train didn't exists but I made it on another with time to spare. Nice old-school ground with lots of corrugated iron barrel roof cowshed stands and mostly standing space (like what I did). Also a lovely little bar area set up under some mature pine trees on a bank in the north east corner. The pitch is fantastic and rumour is it came from Stamford Bridge, donated because the Chelsea U-23 team plays their home matches on it. Whatever, it really did help the quality of football (as references above). Getting home was even more fraught. First train into London cancelled. Second train too slow for me to make the Euston connection. Luckily (I deserved it!!) I was chatting to a bloke who'd incidentally stood next to me at the match and who happened to be a retired railway worker. He knew we could get off at Woking, run over the bridge and just catch the non-stop into Waterloo which would save us 20 minutes. We did it only for that train to be stuck at Clapham junction for 10 minutes. So I had less than 25 minutes to get from arriving in Waterloo to leaving Euston. Made it with 6 minutes to spare (and short one lung). Another excellent day out.
