August 1st, 2011, 07:36:49 In light of Saturday’s unfortunate incident involving our own Tom Miller and Bolton’s Chung-Yong Lee, everybody at the Club including Players, Backroom Staff, Directors and Supporters wish to pass on our best wishes to Chung-Yong and hope that his recovery is speedy and he returns to full fitness. We would also like to praise the prompt actions of the St Johns Ambulance Crew and our Duty Club Doctor, Mr Huw Pullen, who accompanied Chung Yung Lee and some of the Bolton Medical Team to the Royal Gwent on Saturday. Our own Medical Director, Mr Kartak Hariharan, who is a highly regarded foot and ankle surgeon, was available at the Royal Gwent to perform the operation and we understand the Bolton Medical team were extremely pleased that Chung-Yong was in Dr Harry`s safe hands. Tom, as most supporters would have seen, was visibly distraught after the challenge and actually asked Anthony if he could be removed from the field as soon as was possible. He was aware of the seriousness of Chung-Yongs` injury and spent all of Saturday night and Sunday in constant contact with the Directors enquiring as to his condition and was eager to see him in person. Unfortunately, due to Chung-Yong’s post-op condition, this could not be arranged. However, this morning we were extremely grateful that Owen Coyle found the time to have a private meeting with Tom, and assure him that the staff and players at Bolton saw the incident as a complete accident and have set his mind at rest that his challenge was certainly not malicious. You can be assured that the club will be keeping in close contact with Bolton throughout the forthcoming season and make the return journey home, via a friendly at Hereford tonight, with our thanks and best wishes. Nick McDonald, Director - Newport County NEWPORT COUNTY vs BOLTON WANDERERS Home July 30th, 2011 3:00pm Lost 1-3 Goal Scorers Buchanan Total Attendance: 2007Away Attendance: 65 Report NEWPORT COUNTY (1) 1 BOLTON WANDERERS (3) 3 It was a great pity that a marquee friendly such as Owen Coyle bringing his Bolton first team to Newport should be overshadowed by an unfortunate injury to one of their best players. The game itself was a hugely entertaining affair played out before a sizable gathering in the July sunshine. Sadly, all the post-match talk inevitably surrounded the horrific broken leg suffered by South Korean international Chung Yong Lee after an accidental collision with County’s Tom Miller. The incident in the 29th minute was completely without malice, something clearly bore out by the non-reaction of the Bolton players within the vicinity. Miller himself was absolutely distraught and had to be substituted immediately, with the young defender visibly close to tears. We wish poor Chung Yong Lee well and dearly hope that he makes a speedy recovery. County boss Anthony Hudson had described this game pre-match as “easily our toughest test yet” and he wasn’t mistaken: the Trotters displayed their undoubted class straight from the off with the home players literally chasing shadows in the first few minutes. The Premiership outfit could already have already been a couple of goals to the good by then, after firstly Chris Eagles had a shot blocked on three minutes, before Ivan Klasnic flashed in a 25-yard effort two minutes later that whistled just wide. As Bolton continued to dominate with some extremely eye-pleasing football, Chung Yong Lee brought a smart save out of the already busy Danny Potter on eight minutes. A Trotters goal looked predictably inevitable, however it the Exiles instead who surprisingly went in front three minutes later with a goal against the run of play. Lee Baker swung his trusty left-peg, launching a long clearance that sent Elliott Buchanan sprinting clear: the eager striker did the rest, expertly nudging the ball past Juusi Jaaskelainen and into the unguarded net to register his first goal in Newport amber. The lead was somewhat short-lived though, with Wanderers gaining parity just four minutes later. The industrious Nigel Reo-Coker played Klanic through with Potter initially doing very well to smother his shot: sadly the ball ran free and Klasnic’s ball back into the mixer was turned into his own net by Tom Miller. On 22 minutes Bolton had their noses in front with a goal that was as perfect as you’ll see. Martin Petrov whipped in a super cross from the left and Ivan Klasnic provided a headed finish that was pure text book. The game naturally suffered a lengthy delay seven minutes later after the horrible injury to Chung Yong Lee, but the Trotters still managed to add another in first-half stoppage time after County had gone close themselves through both Gary Warren and Sam Foley. The impressive Klasnic was again the scorer, slotting home calmly to claim his second of the afternoon. After all the incident of that opening period, the second-half was more sedate by comparison: but both sides nevertheless still had plenty more chances to score. Chris Eagles drew a fine save out of Potter on 49 minutes whilst Fabrice Muamba blasted a decent opportunity over on 58 minutes. The Trotters continued to boss proceedings and both Reo-Coker and Mark Davies should have added further goals. For the hosts, Felino Jardim caught the eye whilst Buchanan was impressive throughout. Post-match, Trotters manager Owen Coyle was typically generous in his appraisal of County: “We’re pleased with the workout” he explained, “we had to work hard against a very good, spirited side.” County: Potter, Rodgers (Velez 46), Baker (Hatswell 80), Miller (Warren 30), Johnson (Hughes 68), Yakubu, Rose, Robson, Buchanan, Foley, Jardim. Subs (not used): Greening.
