I set off from Brigg after a driving lesson for Emily Fostet and headed on to the M180.
I had to stop at the Gainsborough turn off for the toilet and was staggered by the amount of rubbish thrown into the lay by grass.
Onwards I went stopping at a services for food. It was Tibsgelf and I got a £1.99 meal deal McDonalds Quarter Pounder with chips. I also had a blueberry yoghurt I’d brought from home.
The journey to Bristol was in torrential rain so I ended up being very late arriving at my Aunty Veronica and Uncle David’s house. Also Siri had not been working on my phone so I could not connect my phone to the car computer to get a map. I had to use the inferior Tom Tom satnav instead. I had nipped into Tesco’s to get flowers for my hosts.
In Tescos I found some flowers. Pinks, purples and whites.
Then I attempted to find my destination. I phoned Aunty Veronica and was given expert guidance by Uncle David as to where to go to find their house.
Uncle David spotted me on the street and gave directions via phone. Very professionally done.
Once inside tea was immediately served and it was a delicious lasagne, carrots, kale and peas followed by a pudding of Strawberries, blueberries, stewed apples and cream.
After a chat I had to get going for my football match. I went via the countryside.
Thankfully my Siri was now working so my journey was easier. I was amazed by how many cyclists there were in Bristol. Unlike Scunthorpe all the cyclist had lights on their bikes too. A lot of Bristol has 20mph streets and it is very hilly.
I would not want to instruct driving here!
I arrived at the Memorial ground and managed to find a parking spot very close by. It was a tight squeeze to get my car into the gap. Then I climbed a small hill towards the stand. Unfortunately there was no way in there so I had to double back and go round a very long route to get to the main entrance.
Once inside I realised I was in the wrong stand. I wanted to be with the best supporters behind the goal! The steward let me transfer stands but was moaning about it to his fellow stewards.
The match got underway and Bristol Rovers started brightly but against the run of play Gillingham scored a really soft goal. The crowd were not happy. I noticed that their striker was an ex Grimsby player Alex Rodman. With hardly another shot on goal the half petered out. I was pleased to see that Grimsby were winning their match 2-1.
The second half got underway and again Gillingham were allowed some space and netted a second well taken goal in off the post. Later a Gillingham player was sent off and Bristol then took the game by the scruff of it’s neck and did all they could to get something out of the game. A goal was pulled back but I missed it as I had already headed out at 9:30pm. The match had finished 2-1 a real smash and grab by the visitors. I walked a different way back to my car but wished I hadn’t. It was a dead end in a cul de sac down a hill. Back I went and round further roads. A quick trip back to my hosts where there was a nice beer waiting for me. A great night out. I feel that the Bristol Rovers fans are a good bunch.
