GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
This constrained site had been developed by the Headington Sports Ground Co. for cricket, bowls and tennis as well as football when Headington United FC moved here from The Paddock in 1925. The original facilities included a pavilion on the west side and a small narrow shelter on the east and this was how it remained until after WWII. Improvements to the football facilities, including the construction of a stand in the northwest corner, led to the cricket club vacating the ground in 1949. The Manor Ground was bought for Β£10,000 in 1959 and by the time that the club, having changed its name to Oxford United FC, was elected to the Football League in 1960 the facilities included a main stand on the west side, an open terrace and two small stands at the north end, narrow terracing and a cover on the east side and an open terrace at the south end.

Further alterations, including minor expansion of the terrace at the north end and installation of a roof at the south end, were carried out before the record attendance of 22,750 was set at the FA Cup 6th Round tie v. Preston North End (1-2) on February 29th, 1964. During the 1980s improvements were made to the east side with the construction of two small seated stands and renewal of the existing cover and by 2001 the capacity was 9,650 with 6,769 seats and a 112 x 78 yards sized pitch.
The club moved to the Kassam Stadium in 2001 and the site was utilized for a hospital and housing development.
