Comments :
Northallerton made their second trip to Thornaby in a week without Craig Winter and Christian Holliday , Danny Chapman and James Bowman returned to the squad. Richard Thompson took a knock early on , Bowman replacing him after 20 minutes.Thornaby took the lead after a clearance from Alex Kell was blocked. Town fought back strongly , Carl Chillingsworth had a header well saved and a spectacular overhead kick headed off the line. Grant Hickman was the next to see an effort cleared off the line. On 35 minutes Martin Butterworth fired a ball into the area , Danny Chapman only needed one touch to control and one touch to score. H T 1-1. Town dominated the second half , Chillingsworth scuffed the ball wide when it looked easier to score , Butterworth broke through but fired wide as did Nick Lyons , but when Grant Hickman was disposessed at the other end Town were relieved to see the ball rebound to safety after striking the post. Another period of sustained pressure payed off when Steve Allison fired home after Chillingsworth had struck the post. Allison then had a shot saved by the keeper at the second attempt and fired wide after being freed by Bowman. In a repeat of Tuesdays game Thornaby were awarded an injury time penalty but this time the kick was struck wide of the post to give Town a 2-1 victory. A much better performance than Tuesday''s cup defeat , the margin of victory could have been much greater if chances had been taken but after more late penalty drama everybody was grateful to have won. Team-Kell , Shoulder , Ramsbottom ,Hickman , Chapman , Lyons ,Hardy(Fairish) ,Butterworth ,Thompson(Bowman) ,Chillingsworth ,Allison Subs- Grant , Fairish ,Craggs ,Smurthwaite ,Bowman M O M-Martin Butterworth
