MATCH ABANDONED AFTER 60 Minutes
GAME WITH SWINDON TOWN ABANDONED DUE TO HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS
16:48 27th August 2016
Swindon Town A-A Bristol Rovers
Attendance:
Rovers game with Swindon Town called off due to hazardous conditions.
Darrell Clarke made three changes to the side that lost at Chelsea on Tuesday as Kelle Roos, James Clarke and Matty Taylor came into the starting 11 at the expense of Steve Mildenhall, Billy Bodin and Luke James who took a place on the substitutes bench. Latest recruit Connor Roberts was also among the substitutes.
Swindon started the game at a terrific pace as Darnell Furlong''s cross from the right hand side was palmed behind for a corner by Kelle Roos. From the resulting corner, Jamie Sendles-white was able to get to the ball unmarked but his header came crashing back off the post.
The home side continued to look the more dangerous in the opening exchanges and Darrell Clarke''s side were handed a huge let off with 20 minutes on the clock. After a goal mouth scramble Anton Rodgers looked to meet a bouncing ball with the goal wide open but the Robins midfielder swung his left foot at the ball but missed it completely and ended up on the ground.
Rovers started to click through the gears on the counter attack as Matty Taylor''s neat flick on the half way line allowed Ellis Harrison the space to run at the Swindon defence before picking out Ollie Clarke who showed some good footwork before firing his shot straight at Lawrence Vigouroux.
Nathan Delfouneso looked very dangerous for the home side in the first period and had the first effort of the second half as the former Aston Villa man curled an effort over the crossbar.
Swindon were living dangerously inside the first 10 minutes of the second half when playing the ball back to their keeper. Ellis Harrison almost twice nicked the ball off of Vigouroux''s toes.
As the clock struck the 60th minute, referee Oliver Langford called the game off as the County Ground was caught in a thunderstorm as both sets of players ventured down the tunnel.
In the intermission, Steve Yates emerged from the Rovers dressing room to test the conditions on the pitch with the ball getting stuck in the water.
Minutes later the referee and his officials emerged from the tunnel and waved the game off with 30 minutes of play remaining due to hazardous conditions at the County Ground.
Swindon: Vigouroux: Sendles-White, Thompson (C), Jones, Furlong, Rodgers, Kasim, Doughty, Brophy, Norris, Delfouneso
Unused Substitutes: Henry (GK), Barry, Ormonde-Ottewill, Thomas, Goddard, Stewart, Hylton
Rovers: Roos: Leadbitter, J. Clarke (Bodin - 46), Lockyer (C), Hartley, Brown: O. Clarke, Lines, Sinclair: Taylor, Harrison.
Unused Substitutes: Mildenhall (GK), Roberts, Montano, Easter, James, Gaffney.
Referee Oliver Langford was forced to call off Swindon''s home game with Bristol Rovers due to adverse weather conditions.
The pitch was deemed to be unplayable in the 60th minute, with the game goalless, after the pitch became severely waterlogged.
Langford conducted a pitch inspection 20 minutes after taking the two sides off and, with the rain still pouring down, he called the game off.
Defender James Sendells-White headed against the woodwork for the hosts early on and Chris Lines sent an acrobatic effort wide for Rovers.
Yaser Kasim and Luke Norris both saw efforts saved by Kelle Roos, leaving it goalless when torrential rain intervened.
