Going into this game, Coventry had been in terrible form, so the fans were not expecting much at all and were only going to see a premiership team and for a good day out. All 3,500 of them!
A freezing cold day up north was cancelled out with a delicious pre-match hot dog, and with the atmosphere building in the Coventry end many people were looking forward to the match, however only 9,000 Blackburn fans turned out to watch the game.
The game kicked off and the Coventry supporters were in a party atmosphere, however the weather was not one for partying! The first half was nearing the end and Coventry had put in a very good preformance against a strong Blackburn side and got their rewards 10 minutes till half-time when Michael Mifsud sent the travelling Sky Blue army into raptures.At half time my Auntie Linda tried to wave to my Dad but was sitting at the other end of the ground, and with 3,500 cov fans we didnt spot her, my uncle and cousin!!!! At least we scored a goal people thought but then 2, 3 the sky blues couldnt believe it, 7 minutes to go and the sky blues were 3-0 up against a very good side. The bloke next to me fell over the seats and fell into the row down when we scored the third goal, thats how shocked we were. Things got a little tense when David Betley scored for Blackburn, but this was quickly cancelled out when Ward stepped up to score a 90th minute penalty to make the score 4-1. The Sky Blues were in the 4th round of the FACUP and completed a great double of Premiership scalps, but got the sky blues fans asking, why cant we do this in the league!!
