It was one of those wonderful days when everything went like clockwork. Every train on time and comfortable. The half hour walk to the ground was straightforward, flat and easy. Even the rain stayed off until I was nearly home. It was the same for Wealdstone who utterly thrashed their opponents: out-run, out-thought, out-fought. Great goals too. A couple of top-drawer screamers. Wonderful. The ground itself is a scruffy little affair. To think this lot will probably be in the National League next season is amazing. The clubhouse is like an old scout hut. Yes, warm, cosy and friendly but run down and peeling at the edges. The ground has terracing on all sides but again its all makeshift and higgledy-piggledy. The only really smart modern things is the amazingly bright colour graphics electronic scoreboard. That it is nailed to an ancient wooden shed simply serves to highlight how run down the rest of it is. But I shouldn''t knock them. The supporters were friendly, committed and - in the main - knowledgeable and fair. As often of late I had to leave before the final whistle to catch my train home so I missed the final goal. But I''d seen a hat full so it wasn''t really a big loss. And safely home by nine. Good day.
