Monday had been a big bust I was in Dublin for a day trip to watch st Patrick''s but having boarded the ferry news came in that the game was off as was my backup game in bray. Unable to jump ship and having to drive on my return at midnight I could only have the one Guinness on this Irish bank holiday but decided to get the dart to bray and check the ground out, little reward for a long day of travelling and the best part of £100 wasted. My original plan for my week off had been to do a trio of games in holland at excelsior, psv and Sparta Rotterdam but things had conspired against me so the Irish trip was part two of my backup plan. With Salford being part one, a trip South to visit my dad had given me the opportunity to make this game a better ending. My dad humoured me and actually drove me the hour journey from his we arrived early to get the lay of the land with parking and a bite to eat. The ground was open but the only people I could find was the manager and coaches in their office. I found them very friendly and welcoming and the macam manager retold the story of him playing at Prenton park whilst on loan at Fulham marking Johnny Morrissey but in his own words not very well as mogsy had scored twice. Another story was former rover bas savage had had a trial with them. We followed the recommendation iof eating at the railway bell a small menu but quality food before walking back past the world''s end pub of which I''m not sure if it came before or after the film. Once in the ground another bonus as my rovers away shirt was spotted by Matt a rovers exile in Barnsley who was working around the smoke for a while. 385 in attendance and two and a half rovers fans(can''t say my dad properly has the football bug but follows my exploits and joins me from time to time). One last tenable connection came fm Shaun Jeffers playing up front for the home side whom I''d seen play on trial for tranmere but terms couldn''t be reached and he went elsewhere. Hampton are nicknamed the beavers and half a dozen home fans annoyingly used it to cheer their team on but it seemed very American and reminded me of an episode of third rock from the sun. A penalty from kretzschmar opened the scoring and Jeffers added a second before half time. Hungerford pulled one back rounding the keeper before Jeffers got his second. Rumours at halftime suggested Brendon Rogers was here watching his son play for hungerford but can''t say that I saw him. During the match my dad won an auction on eBay which led to a late detour across London to pick it up before heading back up the M1
