Pre match standings :- both teams played 4: Oxford 24th, 0 points Burton 20th 3 points. My first non WBA match of the season and a nice easy trip via the M42, M40 and the A34 to the Kassam Stadium home of Oxford United. The stadium is located south east of the city on the Oxford Science Park and is well sign posted for quite some distance. There is also ample free parking around the ground, which is a bonus. The Kassam is one of the new trend of football stadia now in the leagues which begs the question which came first : the ground or the the shops? I suppose it was all part and parcel of the deal. The ground sits opposite a small entertainment/ food complex which has a Hollywood Bowl, Frankie and Bennys, a gym, a bar and an all you can eat Chinese buffet among others so there''s plenty to do both before and after the match. The club shop and it''s friendly staff, is also located in this area which was spacious but not particularly over stocked with the usual club shop merchandise. Oxford also produce an away team programme, the only club to do so as far as I know. On the other side of the ground is a Holiday Inn. The first thing you notice is the fact that the stadium has only three stands. The fourth stand was never built due to some financial difficulties so what would be the West stand end is closed off by an 8 foot wooden fence. An unusual sight but strangely doesn''t dampen down the atmosphere inside the ground. End of Season :- Oxford 12th, 60 points: Burton Albion 9th, 63 points.
