The day was marred just before I set off because Heather was discovered to be bullying at school along with a few of her friends.
I set off nevertheless and was on the away coach at 1430.
During the journey I developed a small headache and refreshments at McDonalds close to the ground was a relief.
Once inside the ground it was plain to see that a ground like this would be perfect for Grimsby Town. Nice and compact with four decent stands but no corners. It would be easy to expand the ground if required.
The crowd was disappointing with many empty seats but Grimsby had brought a healthy 300 supporters who were in great voice and easily out sung the home support. 0-0 at half time meant this FA Cup tie had reached 135 minutes without a goal!
It proved to be a cruel game as so often happens with Grimsby Town. We outplayed Shrewsbury for the whole match but in the 93rd minute they had their only shot on target and it went in. Heartbreak and a few minutes later we were on our way back home. I refuse to get upset because I have become accustomed to this happening.
This could prove to be a blessing in disguise as it is one less match to play in January and at least there was no extra time.
Well played Grimsby, you are a good match for any team in League 1.
