Comments :
With Heritage Park still waterlogged, Darlington once again played a home tie at Spennymoor's Brewery Field ground - the fourth home ground I've seen the Quakers play at. Stamford played a brutal game, more suited to the Octagon than a football pitch, which led to Darlington failing to settle, and giving the away side several chances, eventually capitalising in the 28th minute to take the lead. The shock seemed to jolt Darlington to life, and they began to take charge of the game, with Burgess capitalising on a goalkeeping error to strike home shortly before half-time. Stamford's physicality continued into the second half with the referee seemingly reluctant to penalise their increasing brutality., as did Darlington's dominance, with the visiting keeper atoning for his earlier error by making several high quality saves to keep the scores level until in the 75th minute Mitchell struck home directly from a corner to take the lead. Stamford remain in the relegation zone, and Darlington now only need four points from the next three games to be assured of the title.
