Comments :
Rushall suffered an early blow as Harry Harris is forced to depart with an ankle injury sustained during the warm-up as Shane Benjamin makes an early entrance to the fray. With his first touch Benjamin sends a downward header wide of the far post after a useful free-kick. Olympic defender Niki Preston sends a header against the intersection of the top left woodwork after the visitors' custodian came for a high ball played into the box and failed to make a claim. As played moved to the other end Anthony Griffin almost walked the ball into the net for Carlton by Tim Jackson managed to get a cross in time and block out the danger from close range. A first time strike from the edge of the box by Shane Benjamin when straight at Town 'keeper Alessandro Barcherini who promptly spilled the ball and gathered at the second attempt. The commencement of the second period was delayed by almost 20 minutes after referee Mr Granda pulled a muscle during the first half and was unable to continue. The tie eventually proceeded with an asistant referee in charge and Rushall club official Bob Thomas running the line. Carlton skipper Craig Swinscoe latched on to a centre from the right and headed the ball low towards the bottom left corner, but 'keeper Chris Gemmell held on to the danger. However on the hour he scored the winner. As a corner was played in from the right Chris Gemmell progressed well out of his six yard box in an attempt to make a claim, but promptly failed and allowed the danger to run free. As the ball was played back into a crowded penalty area SWINSCOE reacted quickest to power home from close range. As Olympic went 4-3-3 Shane Benjamin ran clear of the visitors defence and was promptly clattered into by the Carlton custodian several yards outside his area. The stopper was fortunate only to see a yellow card for his actions. Carlton saw out time to progress.
