My first visit to Oakwell (as a visiting supporter) and a game that I was buzzing for. With it being a local 'derby' there was 6,732 travelling Leeds fans filling the entire away stand and half the uncovered stand on the dug-out side of the ground. That atmosphere was electric as you can imagine, but this soon died down, after the goals from Barnsley started to fly in.
The ground itself is situated very weirdly. As you approach the ground, you have to walk passed the ground, only to come back on yourself to walk up the hill to get to the away end. There is only on enterance for the away fans and when theres' 6,732 of you, this became very problematic. THis meant the concourse where refreshments are sold is very crowded making in nigh on impossible to get served. There are no TV screen on the concourse and due to the away stand being singled tiered, it means that one concourse serves the whole stand. The entrance and exit is to the end of the concourse, meaning you have to walk the whole length of the stand to get in and out, should your ticket happen to seat you at the far end.
However, Oakwell is a ground with a lot of character, with the very old 'main' stand playing a big role in this. It has got open corners though, meaning added to the fact that the ground is on top of a hill, it can get very blustery. This also means that any potential atmosphere can't reach its full potential.
Overall, 7/10
