My first live game, aged 11. Arrived 2 hrs early for this midweek night match, so as to get a spot right at the front of the Anfield Rd End. My view was at players'' knee height. Very impressed by the sight of the Kop filling up before kick-off with slowly increasing colour and noise. Good game in steady drizzle which left crossbar dripping wet until a Neil Young 30 yarder shook it dry, with Tommy Lawrence well-beaten. Great atmosphere which seemed to rise a notch whenever Peter Thompson was on the ball.
