Took a French friend to this game as his first experience of English football. Had a pint in the Rose pub beforehand. He was so shocked by the primordial appearance of some of the Chelsea supporters in there that he stayed outside the pub while I got the drinks in. Bizarrely, Susan Tully, Michelle off Eastenders, was serving behind the bar (though I think she had only done ''Grange Hill by then). Match was poor. Pitch was terrible. Stadium was the worst top division ground I''d been to. All round, a place to avoid. Never been back since.
