A crisp winters day in Yorkshire saw City travel to Sheffield Wednesday for the first time in years after Wednesday's relegation the previous season.
We stopped off at a pub off the beaten track, down country lanes, so were quite glad to find the motorway again!
We ended up parking in a shoddy pay car park which was literally packed to the fences with cars. It was a fairly short walk to the ground and we had to make our way round to the Leppings Lane end.
The queues were pretty long to get in and we were quite amazed at how inept the stewarding was for a ground that had experienced great tragedy. Wednesday and City fans traded snowballs on the way in!
At the time City were on a long run of wins and were threatening to at least equal or overtake the record number of consecutive wins held by City themselves and 3 other clubs. Our top of the league status and the prestige of going to a large ex-prem ground meant that City brought around 4,000 up to Yorkshire.
Hillsborough is a huge cavernous affair but still keeps all the traditional features that make it such a historic ground. The view was pretty good from the lower tier of the Leppings Lane end but we ended up stood up for the whole match.
The match itself didn't live up to expectations. Both teams cancelling each other out somewhat. City scored a perfectly good goal which was disallowed by the ref. If that had gone in I have no doubt we would have shut the game out. Instead the inevitable happened. Into injury time Wednesday scored the winner and broke our winning streak. It was to prove a costly loss at the end of the season as we missed out on promotion by the narrowest of margins.
On the way out of the ground, City and Sheffield Wednesday fans were herded into the same area behind the ground. With the late goal this led to quite a number of scuffles between rival fans.
