Charlton 4-4 West Ham Jonatan Johansson's stoppage time overhead kick rescued Charlton in a thrilling London derby. Former Charlton youth team player Jermain Defoe looked to have snatched the points for West Ham with a well-taken volley six minutes from the end. I thought it was our game at 3-2, I couldn't see them scoring, Charlton manager Alan Curbishley Paul Kitson, in his first start for 21 months, had earlier claimed a hat-trick to give West Ham the lead and then twice put them level. But the Finnish striker Johansson, who had put Charlton 3-2 ahead after the restart, equalised with a superb overhead kick in the game's dying moments. Charlton's other goals came from Jason Euell in a game which saw the lead change four times. Two seasons ago, Kitson had been on loan at Charlton. But on his return to The Valley he gave West Ham the perfect start after only three minutes. He collected Paolo di Canio's superb pass, chested the ball down, and then sent a powerful half-volley past Dean Kiely. With West Ham dominating the early exchanges, Kiely made a superb one-handed save from Kitson. Trevor Sinclair had broken clear on the right and cut back the ball for Kitson, who hit a precise shot, which Kiely just managed to get a hand on.
