Unusual stadium. One side stand and one end stand were excellent. The other end was a vacant grassy bank with car-park visible behind it. The other side stand was modern but odd and had a very small capacity. Very sunny day but very windy which made it a tough day for both teams. The wind blew straight down the pitch but oddly neither side used it to aid long-range shooting. In fact there were only two shots on target in the whole game! Barnet''s one on target was a near post right foot flick by Collinge on a neat corner routine for 1-0 early in 2nd half. The first half was one of the worst halves of football I have ever seen with neither side seemingly able to cope at all with the wind. In the 2nd half play-off hopefuls Barnet played much better but 3rd placed, and in form, Cambridge did not improve. Not many players impressed apart from Barnet''s centre-back Tavares who could play in a higher division, and their gigantic left-side midfielder Phillip Chinedu who played in a shirt without any name or number. I assume he got blood on his starting shirt perhaps? He had the build of a super-fit cruiserweight boxer but had surprisingly good touch and was composed on the ball. I was surprised to find out later that he is only 19 years of age (!!!) and had only joined Barnet two months ago from Leyton Orient. Glover in midfield had a good game. No-one in the Cambridge XI rates a mention, though their travelling support does. They filled the whole end and made up 1,800 out of the 4,410 attendance. I enjoyed seeing 34 year-old Olly Hawkins make a late appearance off Barnet''s bench. I had last seen the 6ft5 striker in a Wembley final in 2019 scoring the winning ''shoot-out'' penalty for Portsmouth in their win over Sunderland in front of 85,000 fans. It was the best penalty I''ve ever seen in a shoot-out anytime anywhere. I went with my brother, Simon, for whom this was ground number 83. For me it was ground number 89, and for the Wolves fan who happened to sit next to us it was number 85. For the American chap we met in the bar before the game it was ground number1 !! Enjoyed the day in spite of the poor playing conditions, though the pitch itself was in perfect condition. Found an excellent Turkish restaurant, the Melissa, next to Canons Park tube station with Efes beer. Just as well as a local told us the nearest pub from there was 1.5 miles away.
