92

Our 92 done done done Hot day and set off from Whitchurch with Matt in tow. The Crewe to London train was absolutely packed so we couldn''t sit together. I''d brought a half bottle of fizz to celebrate (and plastic flutes) but had to drink it with me standing in the walkway. Then it was across London and out to Stratford where it was blistering hot. I''d had hats made proclaiming our completion of the DT92 not knowing that once in the lounge Charlie would present me with the most wonderful beautiful enamelled black official 92 ''button''. I love it. Before going in we met up with Josh and Russell and had a quick beer in the outside zone. The Great Western Lounge was superb - defo one of the best we''ve ever been in. Huge and airy with loads of tables and seating the whole far wall was glass with great views over East London. Only problem was that with the sun blaring down the AC was struggling to cope so it was sweaty. But the drinks flowed, the food was good and the company excellent. Despite all the negative criticism of this stadium I thought it was great. Our seats were amazing (wide, padded and with big spaces either side) and the sound system and pre-match fireworks were superb. The 62 thousand crowd also made a helluva lot of noise. Sadly though the game was poor. It was as if the West Ham team (and supporters) knew they were doomed to relegation and had already been through the grief and anger stages and on to acceptance. Even the second half rally and a three goal win made no difference to the flat sense of resignation. A few more drinks in the lounge then off back home. Picked up a sandwich and wine at Euston to ease the penultimate leg then a (too) fast Uber back to YTB for a brief sit in the garden before bed. We''ve done it. Didn''t really think seriously we would but we bloody well did!!
