The first time I saw Tranmere play Lincoln was in 1989. To my mind that was the dirtiest performance by an away team visiting prenton park, maybe if I watched the game again i''d change my mind but then again maybe I wouldn''t! To compound it the referee lived long in the memory for offering absolutely no protection and actually reduced rovers to nine men as the players lost their cool at his ineptitude one to desent and the other to foul and abusive language but justice prevailed as muiry popped up with a winner nine minutes from time. That was my first season watching rovers away from home but a trip to sincil bank wasn''t one of the ten games attended, it would be TWENTY SIX years before we played there again. Today was my sixth visit, fifth with rovers but it''s not proving a lucky ground as none have produced a win, today was arguably our best chance with the cowlies having moved on and Lincoln being a shadow of the team of recent seasons. The day started badly as the coach arrived at the designated school carpark by the ground just after 1pm only to find the gates locked and no sign of anyone not least the SLO that was promised the ground was in sight separated by another locked car park but it took ten minutes to get anyone''s attention and another twenty minutes for them to come across to us. Despite charging £20 they just passed the book saying it was a private car park and they didn''t have the key! Further more the team coach had the same problem. When we were eventually allowed to disembark only the players and disabled were allowed to take the short cut across the second car park to the ground instead being sent on a magical mystery tour of the houses around the ground. Shame on you Lincoln Rovers started brightly and looked the better side Hepburn-murphy as the stand out player of quality roasting the right back time after time with a number of fouls and attempted fouls on him. Eventually a particularly crude challenge that nearly snapped him in half produced the first yellow which could have been more, shortly afterwards he was fouled again which looked in the area and he needed treatment but the referee didn''t award a foul. I can''t remember him giving away many free kicks and none of note however when tracking back he nudged the winger off the ball, it was a soft free kick but marginally the right one however everyone was flabbergasted when the innocuous foul produced a yellow card. Four minutes later after a foul I looked away for a second and missed the incident but was told he had been stopped a quick free kick although those around me told me he was walking away. The star player who had been on the brunt of many fouls thrown out of the game for two nothing incidents over a four minute period. Well done Mr Boyson it''s all about you. It was pointed out the amount of consistent fouls by their two players on yellow cards that failed to produce a red and a total of three very strong penalty claims waved away this time their would be no justice and despite looked good value for a point the ten men succumbed late in the second half and the wait for victory here goes on. A game spoiled by a weak official
