I got up early and wrapped up one of Marlyn''s Christmas presents before leaving. It was just getting light. The coach was very slightly late but by 0755 we were on our way to Crawley. I sat with my new friend Andrew Nichols and in the seat behind were Ian Townsend and Graham Precious. I am lucky to have some very nice friends on the away coach now. I have also become facebook friends with Jenny Weeks today. She called me a jack in the box last week because I was up out of my seat so often at Plymouth. We stopped at the Peterborough services which is my favourite. Instead of the usual I decided to have a breakfast bap which had included bacon, sausage and egg. It was quite delicious. I slept for a lot of the journey and it seemed very quick that we arrived at Crawley. We were very early so I decided to walk into town to search for something suitable for lunch. After a very long walk (40 minutes) I found the town centre. It was an awful outdoor shopping centre worse than Scunthorpe''s. I found a Kentucky which was not what I fancied but it certainly went down well! Then for the walk back to the ground. By the time I got there it was only 30 minutes until kick off so I went straight into the ground. The ground looked very empty with Crawley having a poor support. Grimsby looked to have brought about 600 supporters approximately. A good away following in my opinion. For the first 20 minutes I would say that the match was even but then Grimsby made a mistake and a defender was rounded. Crawley slotted the ball into the net and were 1-0 up. The Grimsby support grew more and more restless but just before half time Bogle rose at the far post to equalise. It was a good goal. We spent the half time interval feeling relieved. The second half started in rain and Crawley seemed to be adapting to it better. They were first to almost every ball. It was no surprise when their second goal went in. From that point Grimsby caved in. It was disappointing and painful to watch. Salt was rubbed into our wounds when somehow Crawley scored a third goal directly from a corner. Last time I''d seen that feat was when Grimsby had done the same to Lincoln City on Boxing Day 2013. There would unlikely be any way back from that for us. All was looking more and more desperate with Grimsby floundering and Crawley always looking dangerous. Then, suddenly Bogle curled a sublime effort into the top corner. The goal had come from nowhere. With five minutes to go there was a chance and the team and supporters rallied. A tremendous chance was wasted with a fierce shot being saved by Crawley''s keeper. A bit lower and it''d have gone in. Crawley got the ball into our corner and wasted away the last two minutes. It was all over. A long trip home on the coach followed. I had decided that at the services on the way home, if we''d won, I''d get Chinese noodles, if we drew it would be Kentucky and a loss would mean a McDonalds. To be honest I felt so disappointed I decided to get triangle sandwiches instead with a sausage roll to cheer me up. I got home at 2230 and reflected on the fact that my next match would not be until January 21st, 2017. That seems a long, long way away!
