Another flat-pack identikit type ground and a bit of a pain to get to and from: arrived in Reading on the train and after a swift pint in The Three Guineas made my way to the bus to ground, paid £4 for a return ticket on the bus - note buses accept exact fare only - a rather slow and tedious bus journey to the ground followed. Also, beware that for a 15:00 kick-off the last bus is around 14:30, When arriving at the ground it's very easy to get your bearings as all turnstiles are clearly signposted and there are plenty of stewards around who are more than happy to help with directions and advice if necessary. As always with new grounds there is no such thing as a bad view inside and seats are relatively comfortable, although a bit of a trade-off is that you don't get quite the atmosphere you get at most older grounds. Not surprising - given Reading's current run of form - there was a good turn-out of home supporters, but shockingly they don't seem to have one single song in their armoury. Noise heard from the Reading fans was pretty much limited to the rather unimaginative Blue Army and what they probably refer to as The Reading clap ... and both even needed to be started by drummers in the crowd. If it wasn't for the travelling Leicester fans being in good voice you wouldn't have guessed you were at a football game. Definitely an area for improvement for the Royals! Another disappointment was seeing huge numbers of Reading supporters leave the ground well before the end: at about 80 mins. people started leaving which meant that when the 90 mins. were up the ground was less than half full. Getting traffic away from the ground appears to be a bit of an issue (which may help explain the huge numbers leaving early) so upon exiting the stadium what greeted us were long queues of cars and people waiting for the bus back to the station.
