Entertaining match - both teams could have taken the 3 points. Wore my Red England Away shirt to disguise my allegiance in the nearby pub. SINCE - Yes, with Mick, lost 2-1 + 17/10/10 alone and lost 3 1!!!!
Barnsley vs Nottm Forest 1 - 1 Date: 04/04/2009 Venue: Oakwell Attendance: 19681 Referee: L Probert BARNSLEY 1 (Campbell-Ryce 46) NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1 (Earnshaw 69) IT was disappointing in the end as almost 20,000 fans saw the Reds have three vital points in their grasp but let it all slip away in the end. After a two week break for the internationals, the Reds faced their biggest game of the season at Oakwell with the visit of Nottingham Forest. Simon Davey kept faith with the side that pulverised Derby at Pride Park while the visitors handed a debut to new boy Dexter Blackstock. A packed Oakwell rocked to ''Time Rider'' as the two teams made their way onto the pitch to a cacophony of noise from the sell-out home crowd. It made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Andranik fired the first shot in anger after a scrappy opening on four minutes when he took advantage of Anderson''s neat play in midfield but his effort smacked into Wes Morgan and bounced clear. Isaiah Osbourne managed to get a yard of space down the left hand side for Forest three minutes later and looked to arrow a cross to Rob Earnshaw in the area but the visitors were denied by Darren Moore''s outstanding intervention. Jamal Campbell-Ryce gave Iain Turner work to do on eleven minutes after breaking from midfield but his low drive was easily gathered by the Forest keeper. Heinz Muller had a worrying moment on 16 minutes when Stephen Foster glanced Lewis McGugan''s free kick goalward but the ball fizzed over the bar with the big German struggling to cover. Forest hit the Reds well on the counter on 19 minutes as Nathan Tyson raced clear to cross but Earnshaw could not find a finish from ten yards and clipped the ball high over under pressure from Moore. Macken lit the blue touch paper on a contest that was just threatening to come to life on 23 minutes with a crunching challenge on Joel Lynch. Macken picked up a booking. The Reds had another massive let off on 33 minutes when Blackstock rose highest to meet Tyson''s cross and forced Muller into a very good low save but the whistle had already blown. Hugo Colace picked up a caution seconds later after lunging through Osbourne on half way. It was a soft booking. Campbell-Ryce caused all sorts of problems for the Forest defence on 34 minutes when his corner dropped on the six yard line but Anderson could not find a finish under pressure. Another Andranik corner had Turner all over the place on 38 minutes and Anderson looked for a tap in at the far post but the Forest defence managed to clear. Tyson brought a save from Muller on 39 minutes before Rob Kozluk really should have seen red seconds later after kicking out at Chris Cohen. At the other end Macken''s snapshot flew a well, well wide on 40 minutes. Kozluk saw a goalbound effort well blocked on the edge of the area on 41 minutes before Colace tested his shooting boots moments later from 30 yards but his drove flew high over Turner''s crossbar. Barnsley''s best chance came on 43 minutes when Kozluk rose to nod down Campbell-Ryce''s deep cross but Macken could not get his volley on target from eight yards out. Moore picked up a booking in stoppage time after a nothing trip on Tyson as official Lee Probert continued his card happy display by brandishing another yellow. Barnsley got off to the best possible start just 38 seconds after the interval as Bobby Hassell''s long throw caused chaos in the Forest box. It bounced to Campbell-Ryce and the little winger planted an outstanding looping header past Turner''s despairing dive and into the back of the net. Campbell-Ryce picked up a caution for over celebrating. Forest were almost back on level terms inside six minutes as Blackstock''s mazy run gave Earnshaw a chance 12 yards out but the Welshman crashed his drive against the underside of the bar and away. Andranik had Oakwell on its feet just two minutes later as he took on Colace''s pass and beat Turner from distance but the ball just drifted inches wide of the post. Andranik had a massive part to play on 57 minutes as his break in the area onto Macken''s flick was abruptly halted by Morgan''s clumsy challenge. The referee pointed to the spot but Campbell-Ryce''s poor penalty was easily stopped by Turner. Forest finally saw a yellow card on 58 minutes as Cohen''s heavy challenge on Moore earned the midfielder a booking. The visitors had a massive slice of fortune on 62 minutes as Earnshaw, who looked yards offside, beat the Reds defence to race through on Muller but the big German was quickly out to make a smart save. Cohen''s corner then almost caught out Barnsley three minutes later as the ball dropped to Lynch on the six yard line but he full back shinned his effort well wide. Forest again went close on 66 minutes as Cohen''s deep free kick gave Osbourne half a chance but Kozluk was in the right place with a timely interception. The visitors were right back in it on 69 minutes as again Earnshaw was given far too much time and space in the box to attach Blackstock''s low cross and the striker hammered his shot past Muller from 12 yards. With Barnsley picking up cautions for fun there was surprise on 67 minutes when Lynch escaped a booking for a scything challenge on Macken after the Reds striker had done well to rob the ball on half way. Barnsley finally stepped it up and Anderson forced a smart save from Turner on 76 minutes after attacking Andranik''s corner on the edge of the box. Mifsud was away and racing in on goal on 78 minutes after the ball broke between the Forest defence. The striker looked odds on to net but his touch was poor and he allowed Turner to come out and make an easy save in the end. Cohen put a free kick a foot or so wide of the post on 82 minutes before Andranik really should have done better two minutes later after being put in by Macken but the Iranian midfielder shot straight at Turner. Forest should have scored moments later when Cohen''s cross looked to give Earnshaw a tap in four yards out but the striker missed the ball as he lunged goalward. Tyson had the better of Andranik on 89 minutes as the Reds momentarily opened up but Muller was in the right place to make a smart last-gasp stop. The big chance came at the end of stoppage time as Kozluk''s throw found Colace at the back post. The midfielder let fly but was denied by Turner''s fine save. Anderson headed wide from the corner.
