My first live Chelsea game, back when Chelsea had that eventful season under Avram Grant and City were still under the supervision of Sven before a buyout by Arabian billionaires wasn't even conceivable. It was a belated 19th birthday present from my Mum, whose friend at work was a City season-ticket holder and had therefore offered me a seat next to him. I remember enjoying Eastlands as a ground - the colour scheme was obviously agreeable, and the wide open space around it made it feel rather imposing, with council estates sitting just opposite. The game is a bit of a blur now, bar the goals, the dayglo Chelsea kit, trying to stay quiet when Chelsea scored while the away fans directed vitriol at me, and watching one old man in a Manchester City beanie stand up and shout 'Chelsea rent boys' with a kid not far from him in the City end in a Chelsea kit. I preferred the place to Old Trafford, that's for sure.
