GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

Utilized as a venue for popular events in the town, when it was first used for football by Brumby Hall FC in 1899 the pitch was surrounded by an oval track and the only facility was an open seated stand on the east side. The club merged with others in 1899 and Lindsey United FC in 1910 (to form Scunthorpe & Lindsey United FC) whilst a new main stand was constructed on the west side in 1914.

In 1924 the ground was purchased for Β£2,700 and, following the destruction of the main stand by a fire, a new structure was completed in 1925. A cover was installed at the north end in 1938 and it was probably in this pre-WWII period that a cover was also erected on the east side. The club was elected to the Football League in 1950 and the record attendance of 23,935 was set at the FA Cup 4th Round tie v. Portsmouth (1-1) on January 30th, 1954. Following this milestone the Old Show Ground saw considerable improvements with the installation of a cover at the south end, a 2,200 seat cantilever roofed stand on the east side in 1958 (the first of such design built in Britain and replacing a cover which had burned down) and the replacement of the roof at the north end in 1959.

Scunthorpe United FC moved to Glanford Park in 1988 and the site was utilized for a supermarket.
