Utilized as a venue for popular events in the town, when it was first used for football by Brumby Hall FC in 1899 the pitch was surrounded by an oval track and the only facility was an open seated stand on the east side. The club merged with others in 1899 and Lindsey United FC in 1910 (to form Scunthorpe & Lindsey United FC) whilst a new main stand was constructed on the west side in 1914.
