GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
The ground opened in 1898 and when Scarborough FC moved in the pitch was surrounded by a running track and the facilities at Seamer Road, as it became known, included a 250 seat stand on the north side. By the 1920s small covered areas had been provided on banking on the south side and at the west end whilst, in 1922, a new 700 seat stand was built on the north side but this lasted only five years before succumbing to a fire.

The record attendance of 11,130 was set at the FA Cup 3rd Round tie v. Luton Town (1-1) on January 6th, 1938 and a larger cover was installed on the south side in 1953. The ground was purchased in 1960 and by 1969 the facilities also included terracing around the ground and a cover over part of the west end. The main stand was replaced by an 850 seat cantilever roofed structure in 1979 and in 1995, seven years after the ground was re-named as the McCain Stadium, a 1,350 seat cantilever roofed stand was constructed at the east end whilst, in 1996, a seated cantilever roofed stand opened at the west end giving a nominal capacity of 4,980 with 3,500 seats. The venue remained in use as the home ground for Scarborough until June 20th, 2007 when the club was wound up.
