Robert Bell of Tranmere Rovers scored the first ever Football League treble hat-trick here (and missed a penalty!) in the 13-4 win against Oldham Athletic on December 26th, 1935. The club was also involved in Football League Play Off Matches at the neutral venue of Wembley Stadium. *NB. A gate of only 843 was recorded for the fixture v. Hartlepool United (0-0) on December 19th, 1986, but this was abandoned after 27 minutes due to a floodlighting failure. |

Tranmere Rovers FC, along with Northern Nomads FC, moved across Borough Road from the βoldβ Prenton Park in Devonshire Park to the βnewβ and current venue in 1912. The facilities included an 800 seat stand removed from the former ground and re-erected on the east side and another 800 seat stand on the west. Further improvements, including the construction of banking at the south end and the purchase of a second hand stand from The Oval, a local sports ground, and re-installation on the west side took place prior to WWI.
In the early 1920s Northern Nomads left Prenton Park, the ground was purchased for Β£7,500 and a full length cover (destroyed by bombing during WWII) installed on the east side whilst, in the 1930s, a roof was constructed at the north end and the south end extended. Following the end of the war the club arranged with the council to swap six feet of land on the east side (needed for a road scheme) for redundant tank traps that had been placed in Borough Road and these were craned on to the south end to form a foundation for extra banking and, apart from replacing the roof on the east side, this was the only alteration until the 1960s.

The stands on the west side were demolished in 1968 and a 4,000 seat structure built on the site, whilst four years later the record attendance of 24,424 was set at the FA Cup 4th Round tie v. Stoke City (2-2) on February 5th, 1972. In 1973 the cover over the north end was replaced following its destruction in a gale and this proved to be the final improvement until the ground was substantially rebuilt in 1994/5. In these two years it was converted to an all seat stadium with the construction of a new stand at the south end and general re-roofing and refurbishment around the remaining sides giving a capacity of 16,587 at the start of the 2007/8 season. The pitch size was 110 x 70 yards.

From the M6 exit at junction 26 onto the M58 and continue until the end. At junction 7 turn left onto the A59 Ormskirk Road, then follow the signs for the A59 for the next 5 miles. Just past Everton take the ramp to M53/ M56/ Chester/ North Wales/ New Brighton then head down the Kingsway through the tunnel onto the M53.
South
Take the M6 to Junction to Junction then join the M56 to Junction 15 and merge onto the M53 at Junction 1. Leave the M53 at Junction 3 and take (First exit North or third exit South) on to the A552 Woodchurch Road towards Birkenhead. You will pass a Sainsburys and then as you reach the Half Way House pub turn right at the traffic lights onto Storeton Road. Take the first left for the ground down Woodchurch Lane to the ground.
There is a car park at the ground, otherwise, street parking, there is a strict local residents parking scheme in operation around the ground. Along Borough Road, going past the Kop Stand, is a sports ground between the houses on the right which has parking spaces costing Β£3 per car.

- There is a number of railway stations around the ground but I found taking the train to Liverpool Lime Street then walking over to Victoria Street at getting the 77 which takes me to Singleton Avenue and its a 5 minute walk to the ground and as there are three pubs within 20 yards from the ground.
The closest railway stations are Rock Ferry and Birkenhead Central, both served by Liverpool Lime Street. From Rock Ferry station leaving Rock Ferry turn right and walk up Bedford Road take second right walk up Grove Road second left into Mulberry Road (it used to be a straight walk up Mulberry till some idiot in the council put a six foot fence blocking the route from the the station to the road) then go left right into Inkerman Street walk across Victoria Park at the roundabout outside the park take the first left after Barclays bank and walk up Everest Street and then turn left into Prenton Road and you will reach the ground and away fans turnstiles on your left.'
The directions from Birkenhead Central on exiting the station cross the road, turn right, then at the roundabout turn Left onto Church Road walk down till you get to Victoria Park then take the send right into Everest Road at the end the ground is in front of you it took around 15 minutes from the station'.
The nearest Merseyrail Underground is Conway Park (New Brighton and West Kirby lines), alighting and ascending to street level. You can then get a bus from Birkenhead Bus Station, which is within 100 yards on your right. Arriva Buses: 41& 42 (Stance 6), 71 72, 403, 413, 423 (Stance 3), all take to you the bottom of Singleton Avenue. The ground is then five minute walk from here, heading up Borough Road. Alternatively, the 164, 177 and 464 will take you almost adjacent to the ground, alighting at the bus stop opposite the Prenton Park pub
