GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Located to the south of the city centre and on the west side of Dudley Road, the ground was first used by St Lukes FC in 1881. Around this time St Lukes amalgamated with Goldthorn Hill FC to form Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and the venue was virtually devoid of any facilities, there was a small lean-to shelter on the south side and a small enclosure with wooden duckboards for standing spectators, when they became founder members of the Football League.

The record estimated attendance of 10,000 was established on March 2nd, 1889 for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup (3-0) and this turned out to be the last fixture here before Wolverhampton Wanderers moved to Molineux for the start of the 1889/90 season. The site was later redeveloped with housing on both sides of Wanderers Avenue.
