GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Port Vale FC moved to the Old Recreation Ground, north of Hanley town centre, from Cobridge Athletic Ground in 1913. Initially the facilities at this slightly irregularly shaped ground were fairly basic with players having to change at nearby stables but a grandstand was eventually erected along the west side of the pitch. Further improvements included the construction of concrete terracing around the ground and installation of covering on the east side and at the north end.

The club bought the ground from the local Corporation in 1927 and sold it back to them in 1943 before moving to Vale Park in 1950. The site is now in use for a multi-storey car park.
