GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Purchased in 1919 for Β£2,500, the site, part of the former grounds of the adjacent Peel Park Hotel, was located on the south side of the Burnley Road, north east of the town centre. By the time that Accrington Stanley joined the Football League, two years later as founder members of Division 3 [N], a covered seated stand had been erected on the south east side and banking constructed at the north east end. General improvements over the years included the concreting of the terraces all around the ground and installation of a covered enclosure at the south west end. The record attendance of 17,634 was established on November 15th, 1954 at a friendly game v. Blackburn Rovers to inaugurate the floodlights.

In April 1958 the Aldershot Military Tattoo Grandstand was acquired and re-erected on the northwest side of the ground. This provided cover for 4,700 seated and standing spectators and brought the capacity of the ground up to 24,600. Following their resignation from the Football League in 1962, Accrington Stanley continued to use the ground until it folded in 1965 and the re-formed club used it occasionally during the 1972/3 and 1975/6 seasons when it had serious problems with the pitch at its Crown Ground. Although Accrington Stanley [2] then considered moving to Peel Park on a permanent basis it was eventually sold to a scrap dealer. In 2006 part of the site was in use as a school playing field.
