GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Located on a greenfield site on the east side of the main railway line the National Hockey Stadium was completed in 1995. It was originally conceived as a 20,000 all-seater venue but by 2002 only a cantilever roofed main stand on the south east side and an open stand on the north west had been built giving an all-seated capacity of 4,048.

To accommodate League Football the plastic pitch was ripped up and replaced by an enlarged turfed playing area and temporary open seated stands were installed at each end. During 2004 a roof was erected over the east end and the all-seat capacity was 9,000 at the start of the 2004/5 season. The record attendance was 8,306 for the Football League Cup 3rd Round tie v. Tottenham Hotspur (0-5) on October 25th, 2006. The pitch size was 110 x 74 yards.
