Charlton Athletic 10 Dec 1923 31 May 1924 Charlton Athletic FC moved here to groundshare with Catford Southend FC and squandered Β£17,000 in a forlorn attempt to bring the ground up to a decent standard for Football League football. The fans refused to accept the venue as their home ground and with the pitch liable to subsidence, the club returned to The Valley after less than six months. The twelve games played (plus 1 abandoned v Exeter in January), are listed above.

GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Located in the south west corner of Mountsfield Park in Catford, The Mount was the home ground of Catford Southend FC and when Charlton Athletic moved here from The Valley in 1923 the only facility was a small stand on the east side of the pitch. The whole area sloped from north east to south west and as the club harboured ambitions to eventually build an 80,000 capacity stadium here, the old ground was demolished and the pitch re-orientated and re-sited, moving the centre spot some 80 yards to the north east. To eliminate the slope, spoil was removed from one end and dumped at the other, creating a level plateau for the pitch and a large embankment at the north east end. This embankment was terraced, probably in concrete, but further terracing, a 2,500 seat stand and cover for 1,500 standing spectators which were all part of the scheme failed to materialize and in the end only a β€œtemporary” stand was installed, probably on the south east side.

After Charlton Athletic moved back to The Valley in 1924, Catford Southend FC folded just three years later and the football ground was removed, the site being re-incorporated into the park.
