Charlton Athletic FC moved here to groundshare with Catford Southend FC and squandered £17,000 in a forlorn attempt to bring the ground up to a decent standard for Football League football. The fans refused to accept the venue as their home ground and with the pitch liable to subsidence, the club returned to The Valley after less than six months.
