GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Located to the north of the town centre, Barrow FC took over the Holker Street site, a former rubbish tip, in 1909. Considerable excavations were required to construct banking and make it safe for football prior to the installation of the fixtures and fittings from their previous ground at Little Park. A seated stand, subsequently extended, was built on the north side of the pitch in 1912 and concrete terracing and a covered enclosure, on the south side, installed after WWI.

Just prior to their entry into the Football League, the covering on the south side was removed and re-erected at the west end and replaced with a larger covered enclosure. These alterations resulted in a capacity of 20,000 and the record attendance of 16,874 was established at the FA Cup 3rd Round match against Swansea Town (2-2) on January 9th, 1954.
Some additional alterations were made, the installation of cover at the east end and renewal of the cover at the west, before Barrow failed to gain re-election in 1972. Holker Street is still in use as the home ground for Barrow FC.
