Comments :
Brian Shortall''s 81st-minute equaliser kept the relegation threatened students slim survival hopes alive at Tolka Park on Friday night. Eoin Doyle had opened the scoring on 51 minutes, the Rovers winger finishing well after Joseph Ndo''s cross was redirected into his path by Padraig Amond. But substitute Shortall who was considered the hero and villain of the night was lucky not to be sent off for a foul on Darren Stapleton, was on hand to scramble home from Brian King''s free-kick after Conor Kenna squared the ball. It''s the second time in a week the Hoops have thrown away a lead, and although Pat Scully must have been frustrated, Matt Greggs fantastic goalkeeping could not be faulted. On a night when the Students could ill afford to slip up, luck again was just not on their side as Finn Harps came out with a draw and Cobh Ramblers came away with an incredible win in Inchicore against St. Pats. With UCD still in the relegation zone and only 3 matches left UCD now must go out looking for every point possible. Shamrock Rovers Duggan: O''Brien, Price (Martin 53), Maguire, Treacy: Doyle D O''Connor, Madden, S O''Connor (Stapleton 75): Ndo, Amond (Purcell 78). UCD Gregg: Mahon (Shortall 67), Kenna, McNally, Bermingham: McFaul, Duggan (Fitzgerald 45), King, McWalter: Purcell, Meenan.
