it was a great honour to referee this representative match with linesman on a first-class pitch. Hawker Siddeley were a very large employer in Kingston upon Thames where its airplane factory and HQ were located after it was founded in 1934. It''s greatest time was in WW2 with its Hurricane & Spitfire fighter planes making a vital contribution. At the Battle of Britain (1940) Hurricanes destroyed 55% of enemy aircraft. The Sports Ground first hosted a match in 1944 and first-class cricket was played on its excellent surface. Unfortunately since the factory was demolished in 1990, the ground hasn''t been maintained at such high a standard but at least it still exists.
