This was likely to be my last chance to see the Hammers at the Boleyn, before the move to Stratford in the summer. Regrettably we fielded a weakened team, and only Reid, Cresswell and Noble started from our normal first XI. Wolves (sitting 11th in the Championship) set up in an ultra defensive formation and kept West Ham at arms length for an hour. However, once Dimitri Payet and Andy Carroll came on there was only going to be one winner. Jelavic was the worst player on the pitch (by a mile) but then scored a late winner with considerable aplomb. Not a great game but a win's a win...
Match no. 1219. Not a great game. West Ham struggled to break Wolves down, finally avoiding a replay with a well taken goal by Jelavic five minutes from time. A Croation international, Jelavic had cost West Ham £2.8m from Hull City the previous September. But after 15 senior appearances and 3 goals he was moved on to a Chinese club one month after this game.
Match no. 345. FA Cup 3rd round.
