What a lovely day. It started at 6.10 struggling from bed, leaving at 6.40 walking to B Sth for the 7.05 to Victoria. Tube to Paddington for 8.00 (43187) arr Bristol Temple Meads 9.40 to be met by Martin and then Angela in their car. Asked how A was after her radiotherapy, tiredness and lack of energy was her main drawback, otherwise she's ok. Angela dropped Martin & I off at a Coffee no 1 shop for a drink and chat. The weather was mild and sun is forecast, so I'm only wearing my Rohan light fleece over my shirt. After over an hour in the coffee shop we wandered round the harbour for a while M pointing out places of interest and changes that had taken place over the years from derelict warehouses to pubs, restaurants and boutique shops. The area is buzzing with life. We decided to catch the ferry from the city centre to the Cottage Inn for lunch rather than eat in town. What a splendid way to travel to a pub, and the weather now was glorious. Warm sunshine, clear blue sky. Lunched with a pint of Butcombe bitter (£3.30, I paid £4.50 for a pint of bitter in the Prince of Wales, Wimbledon last Sat) and left for the ground at 13.50, a walk crossing the river Avon of 20 minutes. Had an hour to kill so another pint of Butcombe (£3.50 and real ale sold in the ground at a reasonable price) in the vast area under the Dolman stand. Mart met a guy he knew and I chatted with his son, who'd been a Fulham fan during the Euro League year. Our seats are in the second row close to the pitch. During the warmup Bristol captain Aaron Wilbraham came over and signed autographs and had selfies with the youngsters hugging the fence. Good PR. Opposite the skeleton of the new stand was unable to block out the strong sunshine directly in our eyes. One end of the stand has some concrete terracing in place, but there's a long way to go. There's a recent photo of its progress in the programme (£3). What a start, Mousa Dembele scored after 2 mins, added another on 18 mins, and I'm having to suppress my joy so as not to upset the surrounding Bristol fans. It got better on 33 mins when McCormack rifled in a 30 yard free kick, topped off with a delicate Ryan Tunnicliffe chip on 38 mins for 4-0. The away fans to my right are ecstatic. The second half was tame by comparison, one or two chances at either end. Matt Smith came on for Dembele with 10 mins to go, to a rousing reception, as he'd scored 13 goals and helped them to promotion and win a cup last season while here on loan from Fulham. Kodjia after a busy time round our area throughout the game, finally got a consolation goal 3 mins into the 4 of injury time. Walked back to the Cottage Inn, caught the 17.20 ferry in the gathering gloom, changed at Princes St bridge, bidding Martin farewell as he stayed on to the City Centre, while I got another ferry from there going to Temple Meads station, arr 17.50 with a 3 min walk to the station. Saw Lee & George, the Dixie and Adam briefly before hastening to my 18.00 from platform 15, the far side of the station. Safely on board read my book and dozed, arr Padd 19.40, 20.07 fro Vic, 314 bus at B Sth and home at 20.45. All day lots of folk dressing in Halloween outfits . The girl serving us in the coffee shop had a bloodied axe in her head. (Not literally) And it's not cold, just a great day.
