Ground visited: Oakwell Date: 19/10/13 Match Attended: Barnsley Vs Middlesbrough (SkyBet Championship) I liked Oakwell, although not an atmospheric ground, it has a feeling of welcoming and community about it. Price of Ticket: £16 (Student with NUS card) Cost of Travel: £24.30 (16-25 Railcard) The Ground is within easy walking distance of the Interchange and the town centre: around 10 minutes, a pub near the station welcomes away fans, The Grogger''s Rest, one pint cost £2.25 The stewards were helpful and friendly, I recall them helping a young lad who had been separated from his dad. They also searched fans'' bags before entering the ground, i.e. for Flares, smokebombs etc. It wasn''t much hassle, once you were past them, you were into the ground. The catering prices were relatively decent for a football ground, with a bottle of coke costing around £1.70 and a box of chips was £2.10! Gorgeous chips by the way. FIRST HALF: Barnsley dominated the First half, and were ahead after a mazy dribble from Paddy McCourt left the boro defence helpless on 26 minutes played. 1-0 Their second goal was somewhat tough on Middlesbrough, Jim O''Brien''s speculative effort from 20 yards out deflected in off Chris O''Grady, thus wrong footing Jason Steele in the Boro goal after 41 minutes. Two minutes later, Ben Gibson sent Marcus Pedersen tumbling in the box to give Barnsley a Penalty. Chris O''Grady converted it. 43 minutes played. 3-0 At Half time. SECOND HALF: In hindsight, the game seemed lost for Middlesbrough. The first 30 minutes of the second half were not really that bright, but it was in the last 15 minutes of the game that Boro sprung into life. On 82 Minutes, Albert Adomah scored with a volley what would appear to have been a consolation goal after a centre in to the area, from a Richie Smallwood knock down. 3-1. Two minutes later, Frazer Richardson delivered a cracking centre into the box, and, on cue, Adomah headed beyond Jack Butland in the Barnsley 3-2. Game on! I remember whenever boro had a corner, the fans would go to the front of the barriers, and sang ''If we score, we''re on the pitch! Boro pressed and pressed for the elusive equaliser, but Barnsley held on to claim the three points. Tony Mowbray was Subsequently sacked the next day, Mark Venus currently is in caretaker charge.
