Up at 5.30, walked to B Sth on cool morning, to catch 6.35 to Vic. Euston at 7.05 for the 7.30 (390004) to Preston arr 9.45. over to platform 1 for 9.55 (156488) fast to Blackpool North, arr 10.21. a short walk away found a cafe for breakfast then walked to Bloomfield Road about 20 mins away to pick up a ticket for Blackpool v Huddersfield on Mon 24 Sept. We''re on hols that week near Lancaster. Walk back to the prom and up to the Tower but queue puts me off waiting. Take the tram at 11.40 to Fleetwood Ferry arr 12.20. Stroll back to High Street, and have omelette lunch in small cafe. Rather characterless town. Pop in to the Prince Arthur for half of Guinness (£1.35) then the Wetherspoons, Thomas Drummond for halves of Hawkeshead Red and Roosters Yankee (£1.86) Preferred the latter. Just after 14.00 left pub to walk via the Memorial Gardens to the Highbury ground of Fleetwood Town FC who are playing Northampton Town today. I''d pre booked my £10 ticket in the main stand. Prog £3. Nice little stadium and I have a good view in the back row and one end of the main stand. Fleetwood have come from minor league obscurity to FL status in a very short time thanks to an investor. The game was entertaining with little of the head tennis associated with this league and plenty of good passing using the full width of the pitch. N''ton had a player (East) sent off after 2 yellow cards at 24 mins, and Fleetwood couldn''t break down N''ton solid defence. The ref was very pernickity and earned some abuse. But 3 mins into the 5 of injury time Mangan headed in for Fleetwood to great cheers from the crowd. They are now 3rd in the table. Brisk walk to tram stop and when tram arrived it soon filled up. Back at North Pier in 40 mins walked up to the station, caught 18.20 (142051) to Preston and the 19.01 arr 19.10, (390011) to Euston arr on time at 21.38. Read Kate Adie biography on way back. 21..55 from Vic,B Sth 22.25 138 bus home by 22.40.
