Got the 8.03 from Kings Cross, but held up for an hour outside Grantham with signalling problem. Then train terminated at Doncaster, and wait for next service at 11.10. Got to Leeds at 11.45, scheduled 10.28. So little time to explore. Bought an Elland Road shuttle bus ticket (£1.75) from the Info centre, and wandered into the city. Went to the Victoria Hotel in Great George St. for sausage & mash lunch and a pint of stout (£9.40). Then a quick look round the Art Gallery, and a stroll back toward the station. I needed a pee so popped into the Scarbrough Hotel opposite the station, and had a half with a pack of pork scratchings. I''d been asked to remove my cap before entering by the ''bouncer'' on the door! At 2.00 walked down to Sovereign St where the shuttle buses to the ground leave from. Got talking to a guy my age as we got off and he walked with me to show me where the ticket office was. originally going to sit in the East stand, but no concessions there and £34. So opted for the NW corner, where conc. are £19. And the programme was £4! Took a photo of Billy Bremner statue and then entered the stadium. Noticed Norwich were losing to Man City 4-1 so texted Helen. She replied telling me it was now 5-1. It ended 6-1. I was surrounded by regular supporters who must have wondered who this outsider was. I asked the guy behind me a couple of questions and he was friendly. Posh scored first a goal caused by a defender trying to play his way out of defence and getting caught. Leeds equalised in first half injury time, and early in the second half scored two more, to the disbelief of the local fans. And then discredited striker, Billy Painter got a fourth to end Niel Warnock''s day on a high. A scramble for the bus after, but soon back at the station, and on to the 18.05 for a pleasant journey reading the programme and the fanzine (The Square Ball), arr KX at 20.25. Home by 21.25
