The famous Colchester goal that never was. Referee Darren Sheldrake clearly blew his whistle for an offside decision - that never actually came from his Assistant - just a split second later, Gillespie hit a perfectly good shot that found the back of the Charlton net. Pandemonium ensued - first the referee allowed the goal to stand after consulting the aforementioned Assistant, then chalking it off after the Fourth Official rightly pointed out via their Headset link-up that, as the Referee had blown his whistle just before Gillespie had shot for goal, under the Laws of the Game the goal could not be allowed to stand. Colchester were devastated and lost their focus completely. Bradley Wright-Phillips scored a cracker for the Addicks with 10 minutes remaining and won a match they could easily have lost. As for the referee, well who knows what level he's officiating now? Sunday morning on the local park I would guess!

First home game for Chris Powell. Good ground and friendly crowd. Strange ref decision blowing for offside, then giving Colchester a goal and then taking it away. Transport good via Jubilee line. Burger 7/10.
