THE GAME OF ALL GAMES !! THE BEST ONE I HAVE EVER BEEN TWO !! I DOUBT THIS WILL EVER BE BEATEN !! SUNDAY 12TH MAY 2002 !! THE DAY STEVE BRUCE LEAD BIRMINGHAM BACK !!   After four consecutive years in the play offs Birmingham City finally passed the semi final hurdle and reached the play off final !! The week leading up to the game was nervy week, on the friday Lorraine went to Dublin for the weekend as the trip was already planned, Dave and Chris confessed they where so nervous they couldn't sleep or think straight they just wanted the game to come !! The game was to be on Daves birthday, What a birthday it was turn out to be !! In the paper on the Friday night it was announced there was to be no standing on the train on the way to cardiff, Chris and Jimmy where due to stand on the train so where forced to change there train tickets and go up a night early and stay over.   On the saturday Dave wished the lads well and they head off to Cardiff. The lads arrived in Cardiff and out of luck there b & b was opposite the millemium stadium. The lads head out and stumble up on the town centre and loads of boozers !! Walking down the road the lads stood still with a couple of old bill as a bus of girls on a hen do went past and they flashed boobs and bum, Chris asked the copper to stop the bus !! The lads went a pub where they found weaver and sandford and a few other bluenoses and had a good piss up !! A kebab meat and chips and back to the b & b for the night !!     The next morning we awoke to confess we had both had dreams we had lost the final and where scared !! A bit of breakfast a meet up with Murphy and to Oneills for pre match beers, the lads got hammered and headed to the game !!   The game began and was a little edgy, both teams cut out a couple of chance but at half time it was goaless !!   The second half began and was still nervy, it was a decent end to end game, Birmingham made a couple of chances and Norwich went close with a last minute free kick that Vaesen turned around the post !! The game went to extra time !!   Extra time bgan, everyone more nervous every minute and then Norwich struck !! Iwan Roberts heads home a cross after a Martin Grainger mistake and Norwich lead. The blues fans cant believe it, its look like the dreams fading away but Blues soon strike back, Norwich depends very deep, Jeff Kenna crosses from the right, Stern John heads down and Geoff Horsefield head in to equalise. The players and supporters go wild, Brucie jumps for joy, its all square again !! In the 2nd period Michael Johnson hits a post with three minutes remaining and almost wins it, the game end all square and we have penalties !! Fletch prays in his seat and the penalties soon begin !!   Iwan Roberts scores for Norwich but Stern John equalies. Nico Vaesen then brilliantly saves a Mulryne penalty and Paul Devlin smashed the ball home to put Blues in front ! Daryll Sutch then puts wide and Stan Laziridis scores and Birmingham stare at the premiership !! Norwich must now score there last two kicks and hope Birmingham miss both theres !! Easton scores for Norwich, Vaesen almost saves and then 18 year old Darren Carter steps up fot the biggest moment in Blues supporters lives everywhere !! Carter steps up and SCORES !! BIRMINGHAM CITY ARE IN THE PREMIERSHIP !!!!!!!!!! The players pile on each other the fans invade the pitch, Fletch, Jimmy and Murphy go mental in there seats after all these years the deams complete !! Jeff Kenna and Steve Vickers hold aloft the play off trophy and its a amazing moment for everyone connected with Birmingham City !!
