OLDHAM ATH 0, UNITED 1 (Westlake 90) Oldham: Crossley, Eardley, Hazell, Gregan, Bertrand, Liddell, Kalala, Kilkenny, Taylor, Ricketts (Wolfenden 88), Davies. Subs: Allott, McDonald, Thompson, Trottman. United: Ankergren, Richardson, Heath, Marques, Hughes, Prutton, Douglas, Thompson (Westlake 90), Carole, De Vries, Andrews. Subs: Huntington, Weston, Clapham, Ameobi. Referee: P Joslin Att: 10,054 (3,732 Leeds).United boss Dennis Wise handed debuts to loan strikers Mark De Vries and Wayne Andrews as he looked for his side to return to winning ways after Saturday's draw at Gillingham. Wise also welcomed skipper Alan Thompson back to the fold, Andrew Hughes reverting to left-back with Jamie Clapham dropping down to the bench. There were very few chances in this match and just as it looked like being one of those nights the never-say-die spirit shone through again. With the final attack of the game, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, substitute Ian Westlake arrived to volley home with an amazing strike after Seb Carole had skinned his man and put a cross in from the left.
