First trip to Boundary Park. Poor game, classic League Cup first round with very little quality on offer. Both teams lacked fitness but battled. United went behind but battled back and JP McGovern whipped a lovely 25-yard free kick in to level it. Taiwo hit base of the post in added time but it was straight to pens, and new boy Rory Loy slipped home the decisive spot-kick to take the Blues into the next round, winning the shoot-out 4-2.
