Club: AFC Bournemouth Ground: Dean Court Date: 25 September 1982 Match: Bournemouth v. Exeter City, League Division Three Result: 2-0 Attendance: 7547 Remarks Six years on from my first game it was time something new. After following them unusual combination of Bristol City and Napoli games I decided to take in a Cherries match before heading off to university in Liverpool. On the terracing at the side of the pitch opposite the main stand. This was quite a contrast to the big game atmospheres at Bristol City and Napoli. Welcome to the lower divisions. This turned out to be a routine win for the home side on a typical Bournemouth sunny day. 85 Subsequent visit of note Date: 15 December 1984 Match: Bournemouth v Bristol City, Canon League Division Three Result: 2-1 Importance: First Bristol City game Attendance: 4.987 I went with my brother. I might have been impressed with Glyn Riley’s strike but my brother knew better. City did not impress him and he remained very much a rugby follower. This would be our last football match together. It obviously does not run in the genes. My maternal grandfather followed cricket keenly but beyond that it is hard to explain my passion for the game.
